Our Letters to My Younger Self series features letters from people around the world dedicated to their younger selves. Read on for throwbacks, humour, and heartfelt advice.
This letter is written by Puerto Rican actress Amanda Vilanova to her younger self.
Hey you. I love and admire you.
Here are a few recommendations from a slightly more seasoned you:
You’ve always been pretty hard on yourself…relax a bit.
No one actually cares, everyone is just thinking about themselves so stop this strange need to exemplify perfection.
Learn to say no, it’s so powerful.
You’re NOT fat. Dress how you want to! The time is now!
You have such a wonderful family…spend all the time you possibly can with them. You’ll miss them so much when you go off on your “adult” life adventures.
That boy is not the be all and end all. You’ll forget he existed, trust me.
One event does not define you.
Loved ones leave us unexpectedly, hug them now and honour them for the rest of your life.
Real life is better than the movies.
Life won’t always be this way. Cherish it. Enjoy it. Hug and call your friends.
I send you love younger Amanda. You’re still hanging out with me. I’m glad you resist growing up 😊
Amanda features as the smart and grounded Sarah in Friday Night Love Poem, streaming on ZOOTV from August 16-29, 2021, available to view worldwide.
